5.0 out of 5 stars Appreciate the benefits of learning through play! Superb!, 22 Mar 2006
Great book for parents and childcare professionals alike!

We have recommended this book to many of the nurseries, pre-schools and childminders that we work with as a Toy supplier.

Great for helping parents to realise that play is not really just a leisure pursuit for kids - it's the best way for them to learn and thrive in a society that considers having fun might lead to boisterous children - more likely it will lead to creativity and a superb imagination! Highly recommended - also worth a good look is : FAO Schwarz Toys for a Lifetime: Enchancing Childhood Through Play

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific help for parents & teachers in picking playthings, 28 May 1999
By A Customer
Play is the work of the young. Through play, children grow -- physically, emotionally and cognitively. "Dr. Toy," Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D., helps readers to find the toys and playthings that will best advance this growth. This comprehensive book demonstrates a deep understanding of the different needs children have at every phase of their development and provides specific guidelines for choosing toys, computer software, musical instruments and a host of other items children can play with.

Sally Wendkos Olds, coauthor, "A Child's World: Infancy through Adolescence" and "The Complete Book of Breastfeeding."

Dr. Toy looks at the whole picture, from birth on. Her ideas are wonderfully refreshing. I especially found her frequent checklists helpful.

I'm the daughter of Dr. Toy. After reviewing "Smart Play", I discovered how I can help my son to play Smart. I learned a lot and every parent will too.
