5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction, 31 Jul 2005
Years ago, when I first decided that I wanted to know about Tarot, this was one of the two books my local public library had on the subject. I borrowed both but this one was easily the better book, offering an excellent overview of the subject and a clear basis on which to get started with practice, which ultimately is the only way to learn to read the cards. It also has a wonderful section on the history of Tarot, both known and surmised, making a clear distinction between the two. It helped to maintian my interest for long enough to find and afford a face-to-face teacher and to make Tarot a part of my life, clearing away some of the misconceptions I had about the subject and putting my learning on a firm footing.

These days I am a professional Tarot reader with twenty years' experience under my belt and my own book on the subject (Tarot for Life by Prospero) out last year. I still keep a copy of this book on my shelf and enjoy its simplicity, thoroughness and common sense in a subject where such qualities are rarer than they should be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the Taro, 20 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Illustrated with the Rider-Waite deck, this book clarifies and crystallises the essential meaning of each card, explains the symbolism, and provides a mythical background to a divination system steeped in mystery. The accepted numbering of the Trump cards is discarded in favour of her own preferences, but this allows the reader to see the story unfold in an 'easy to learn' way. Reversed meanings are also left out, to the beginners advantage in my opinion - I don't use them anyway!
