Product Description

Book Description

Many pastors, counselors, and theologians consider this book the most helpful on the issue of marriage and divorce.

From the Back Cover

If the church is going to use the Bible to decide whether divorce is legitimate in certain cases and whether divorced couples have the right to remarry with the approval and blessing of God’s people, then the Bible must be studied without prejudice toward a particular answer.

The author examines the relevant passages in both the Old and New Testaments so that his readers can consider the many issues and interpretations that arise in trying to establish a consistently biblical position. As a result, readers can see more clearly and accept more firmly the truth of Scripture.

The book succeeds at being exactly what the author wanted it to be: "a comprehensive, lucid, accurate study presented in a readable and practical style. . . ." It is a valuable resource for the pastor, counselor, church leader, and others who are struggling to understand and apply scriptural principles to the problems of divorce and remarriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading, 5 Mar 2004
By A Customer
I was recommended this book by a pastor whom I heard preach some fantastic sermons (none on marriage or divorce though). It is a good read (and I say that carefully). As a divorced person I approached this book with some searching questions in mind. Answers were what I seeked. Adams reminds us of one fact that I often feel justifies everything - Jesus died for every sin and we are forgiven. At the end of the book I felt God would have no problems in me getting re-married.

One thing that must be remember when reading this book though - it is one man's interpretation, and though I believe he is writing to the Glory of God, many an evil has be done on this pretence. After all, isn't the path to hell paved with good intention?

This book will help you with some issues you may face, however, don't rely on it to answer you question. There is only One who can answer your question and Him you will know if you seek after His heart. I'm not meaning to sound criptic here, however, you will understand if that is what you search after.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone who counsels or wants to, 28 Mar 2008

(REAL NAME)
Although an admirer of Adams, in general, I was skeptical that this book could teach me anything new that I had not learned from other similar books. I was wrong. I did have a frozen notion about divorce and remarriage (from an independent-fundamentalist view) and Adams competely dismantled it for me, using the Bible.
The layout of the book is easy to read and he never spends too much or too little time elucidating his points. I really appreciate that.
I also found it useful to show me how I might pray for friends that are struggling through some of the issues that he brings up. Best of all, I put the book down with a sense of hope that God still moves in marriages and can heal the wounds inflicted, no matter how deep. I found the book not only educational and Biblically-based, but also inspiring!
Thank you Jay E. Adams!
