Product Description

Synopsis

Instinctive Parenting Is Easier Than You Think Childrearing is simple, satisfying, and above all, fun! Don't Panic! returns confidence to parents and assures them that parenting is not unduly complicated. It's not child development professionals, psychologists, or parenting specialists who know best how to bring up children, but the parents themselves. Their instincts are better than any expertise and their love far more powerful than any mercenary motivation. Rather than a problematical skill understood by professionals, childrearing is an act of love best done by amateurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A family transforming book, 2 Sep 2005
By A Customer
With 3 children aged 5,3 and 1 i wasn't finding child rearing much fun at all, just a hard slog. I'd read a lot of advice type books and was feeling increasingly confused about the best way to handle my children and felt that the toddler years especially were all about a 'them against us' battle. After reading this book i felt inspired and really encouraged to simply enjoy my children. The author speaks so much sense and is so empowering to parents that we really DO know whats best for our own children. I can honestly say that it has transformed my husband(who also was forced to read it as i knew he'd love it) and my relationship with our children. I've driven my friends mad quoting from the book until they too have read and loved it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book you won't regret it. ......, 28 April 2006
It's not often that as soon as you finish a book you pick it up to read it all over again..in my opinion this is one of those books. This is the best book I've read on child care and I've read quite a few. It's inspiring, witty but most of all honest. Anne Atkins admits her mistakes / problems she's had and she should know having had five children. The book is so refreshing as most childcare books just make you feel inadequate because you're not following their suggested regime. This is all about following your instincts and all will be well - most of the time at least! I didn't agree with all of it but her opinions challenged my views and that has made me rethink some of my ideas. (eg: smacking)I loved the chapters on professionals.... (Read it you'll know what I'm talking about).

Some may not like the chapters on religion at the end of the book - (I personally liked them) but you can always skip to the end. The majority of the book is really good and inspiring. I got the book from the library and will probably go and buy it. You can't get higher praise than that!.

Claire - single parent of adorable 2 year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for all parents, 21 Oct 2005
By C Schroeder (Northumberland) - See all my reviews
A great book. I thoroughly enjoyed Anne's down to earth and common sense approach to parenting. Not only will this book help me as a father & husband but also my own relationship with my parents (and in-laws) stands to benefit from her advice & real-life examples. Highly recommended to anyone with children (or parents for that matter).
