I enjoyed the Monster series from David Wellington for it's twist on the Zombie apocalypse theme and he seems to have gone down the same route for Vampires.

Updated to a modern yet parallel world I really enjoyed the fact that this was "realistic" with it's gritty, crime thriller style. The flashback sequence at the start is fantastically atmospheric and really got me into the story.

The follow up books are on order - no better recommendation than that!

I quickly got into this book. The author has an engaging, relaxed style that draws you in and keeps you wanting to turn the next page. I had originally read the 'Monster' books and enjoyed them...although there were sections where my attention wandered. This vampire series is a bit short and therefore expensive for UK based fans...but worth the effort. I like the new imagined details w.r.t. vampires - refreshing and original. I am currently half way thru the second (99 coffins) and it is a step up in terms of atmosphere and structure mixed in with the American Civil War references. Short, but a cut above standard fare. Indulge yourself!

A great modern horror with plenty of blood. But a humane story line. Jolly good read!
