5.0 out of 5 stars The most thought provoking book I've read as a Muslim woman., 9 Mar 2000
By A Customer
As a Muslim woman Leila Ahmad's 'ethical' view of Islam spoke to me in a way that found instant recognition. Her ideas are controversial, no doubt about it and I don't necessarily agree with everything she says (a further study of some of her sources might settle a few concerns). Nevertheless this is a must read for everyone interested in Islam and in women's issues generally. It is of great value for disscussing our history from a perspective that dislodges preconcieved notions. It is provocative yet simple and lucid in its style. It speaks to you, it upsets you, it challenges you and it calms you - whatever - you cannot avoid the impact of this book.
