The authors provide new information on the distribution of each species; an appendix includes 24 maps and a gazetteer of the place names mentioned in the text. This volume also provides a cross-referenced index of scientific and English bird names of species.

this is not only a complete list of all the modern birds of the world, but a revision based on dna testing by the authors sibley and monroe. This offers a new taxonomy of the worlds birds with many startling changes. It is a fascinating and comprehensive work. those educated on the wetmore and amadon classification will have to reeducate themselves.
