5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding, moving, well researched book, 4 May 2005
Like the previous reviewer my Grandfather was in the SAS in World War II and he is mentioned in the book.
It is a very moving book and doesn't hold back. The stories of the SAS men being executed by the SS are particularly poignant. The quote "We were good men" will always stick in my mind, when you get to that part of the book you will understand what I mean.
I have been in touch with the author and he has been very helpful in giving me further information. It is a fantastic book and explains a lot, and makes me even more proud of my grandfather.
This is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it. 5 Stars is not enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAS and Fighting French, 15 Aug 2005
By jean-louis croiset (Lyon, France) - See all my reviews
This is the first book I read of the SAS that honors France's contribution to them in the Second War World. I thank the author for interviewing some of France's SAS veterans because not many people here know how brave they were at a time when not many in France were brave. It is a brutal story but it is beautiful to.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Early SAS - A Fine Depiction, 29 Mar 2005
By A Customer
This book really gets to grip with the formation, utilisation and culture of the early stages of the SAS. The individual exploits of the men, their frustrations and successes, and the achievements of the regiment in its various guises are described with care and without over-glamourisation.
My grandfather was one of the many SAS soldiers referred to in the book, and the author has captured the spirit of the men and the times exactly as he described them to me.
Buy this this book, and marvel at the ingenuity, skill and courage of this disparate group of fine soldiers.
