About the Author
Ivan Rendall served in the RAF and was the producer and writer of the major BBC series, Reaching for the Skies. He is the managing director of Zenith TV and the author of six previous non-fiction titles.

I'm very much into F1 and can take most of the rest of motor sport or leave it.

Nevertheless, this book (which I recieved as a gift a few years ago) is a brilliant history of the 4-wheel track sport, and anyone with an enthusiasm for road / track racing will find this right up their street.

I read it cover to cover, and it's a pretty large tome, I can tell you.

And if you can get it at this price (£6.49), you cannot go wrong, beleive me!

This book is absolutely amazing, chronicling the first century of motorsport right from the first race held in Paris where the average speed of the winner was 11 mph right up to present day formula one, along with all the pitfalls and boosts a century of war and technological advances have contributed. Although missing the last few years (where, let's face it, nothing much has happened) the reader is whisked back to the days when a champagne lunch and a full time mechanic were commonplace in racing cars that used public roads and told how motorsport evolved into the track-based event it mostly is today...

I have a lot of books about motor racing but this one is the best. Book gives an overview of the history, so, it's great. And I like the fantastic photoes as well. Racing fans, if you haven't this book in your collection - then you haven't anything at all !
