5.0 out of 5 stars before it was Yesler, it was Skid Road, 6 Jun 2003
This is the consensus choice among local historians and writers for the best account of Seattle's founding, and it deserves to be. Morgan's excellent portraits of Washington pioneers like Doc Maynard and Arthur Denny are exhilarating and informative, and the book as a whole reads like a collection of very good short stories. For people familiar with Seattle, this will likely change the way you look at Pioneer Square and the waterfront, but being familiar with the city is in no way a prerequisite to enjoying this informal history.
