Product Description

Product Description

Have you ever asked: Why does my rabbit....nip my ankles?...follow me like a dog?...worry if i move the furniture?...dig holes in my mattress?...enjoy stripping wallpaper?...play with the washing on the line? With rabbits now the third most popular pet after cats and dogs, and with more and more people keeping them in the house rather than a hutch, behaviour problems are now arising that often stem from a lack of understanding of natural rabbit instincts. Practical and informative, this book by a specialist in rabbit behaviour will help both owners and rabbits live together more harmoniously. Arranged in an A to Z format, it covers the whole spectrum of rabbit behaviour, explaining how rabbits live together in the wild and how the artificial nature of a hutch or house can distort natural urges and may cause stress. Dealing with a whole range of problems, Anne McBride shows how a better understanding of rabbits and their ways, combined with simple adjustments to your rabbit's living conditions, will enable it to be itself and ensure that you have a happy, contented pet who will bring you years of affectionate and delightful companionship.

About the Author

Anne McBride is an animal behaviorist at the University of Southampton. She has done extensive research on rabbits and lives with bunnies in Southampton, England.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative for me and Bernard the bunny, 2 Mar 2006
By Gem Russell (Sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews
I bought this book mainly to get into my pet Bernard's little rabbity brain and it doesn't disappoint. The book is informative whilst being humourous and uses real problems to show examples of solutions.
It gives good advice to problems not usually covered in Rabbit Ownership books and tries to explain the reasons behind strange behaviour. It seems Bernard isn't just being naughty when he nibbles cables, he thinks their roots in his burrow.
All in all, this is a great book and I'd recommend it to all rabbit owners - particularly owners of house rabbits.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, 2 Jun 2003
As I am new to the world of rabbits, I wanted a book that would educate me a little better. Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. It goes into depth about rabbits, behaviour, diet, exercise and answers questions you might have ie. why does a rabbit bite? etc. Common questions are all answered here. It gave me tips on how to entertain rabbits and illustrated that a hutch doesn't have to be everything in a rabbit's life.

An excellent read especially if you have only just bought a rabbit for the 1st time like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very useful book for all rabbit-keepers, 22 Mar 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Why Does My Rabbit...? (Hardcover)
I have to disagree totally with the other reviewer of this book! I think it is an excellent book and I found it very helpful in explaining and understanding why my rabbits behave as they do. Common problems that rabbit keepers have (such as your adored pets digging up the garden, chewing your furniture and growling and spitting when picked up)are explained and helpful suggestions offered. I would recommend this book to anyone who keeps rabbits and has read the basic care books and now wants a greater insight into their behaviour.
