Synopsis
The story of the Anglo-Saxon Church, from the first heathen mercenaries with the Roman Army, to the Norman Conquest, with its suppression of the cult of the English saints. The author tells authentic stories, bringing alive some of the main characters of the period to illustrate the many-coloured strands which weave the pattern of Anglo-Saxon spirituality. The book draws on both source material and contemporary scholarship.
