Hargreaves provides an illuminating approach to the study of Genesis and ties some of God's intensions for mankind with contemporary issues. Genesis 1 and 2 are given greater treatment, sometimes featuring a word by word analysis, whereas the latter passages are treated in larger segments. This reflects the setting Genesis, in particular the creative verses, within a particular worldview grounded in contemporary scientific evidence and extrapolating the underlying importance of the Biblical text.

The book is well presented and easy to engage by avoiding use of unnecessary and elaborate technical jargon in science and philosophy. My only criticism is that Hargreaves does not provide greater detail or references to support a particular interpretation or view and it is these areas which are hotly contested between supporters of a literal and a revelatory interpretation of Genesis 1 & 2.
