4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal all-round guide for gardening beginners, 1 Mar 2000
By A Customer
For someone starting out on designing and creating their first garden, this book covers everything, in an order that seems to make sense. I needed help with the overall design and this was one of the few books that had a whole chapter on this area. It shows you how to draw a plan of your existing garden and from this, how to design a new plan. It then gives simple instructions on all types of design and building such as laying pathways, building steps and fences. There are lots of colour pictures to help give ideas and it always bears in mind that the reader is a beginner without vast knowledge of gardening terms. It also gives samples of borders for eg. sunny or shady parts of the garden, naming all plants to use, with a photo or a drawing.

The kind of book I can see myself referring to again and again, therefore great value as well!
