This book provides a fascinating insight into how to prepare a CV that will get you shortlisted for a job. Cutting through redundant psychological theory, Jim Bright and Joanne Earl give practical advice on how to get the most out of a CV. Through anecdotes and sample CVs (both good and bad)the authors manage to inject considerable humour into what could be a dull subject.

Jim Bright and Joanne Earl have done a great job of displaying all the information you need to get your CV looking just right, and more importantly ensuring you get your dream job. The text is easy to read, informative and based on well-established principles of both cognitive and organisational psychology. Unlike many other publications of this sort, the examples and information contained in Brilliant CV are drawn from rigorous empirical studies carried out by the authors. Their overall approach is thus both methodologically sound and proven to be effective in the "real-world" environment. I highly recommend this book to all job-seekers. Brilliant.

After deciding to apply for promotion at work for the first time in over 10 years, I thought about freshening up my cv. My local bookstore had a reasonable selection of relevant works and I spent an hour or so browsing through them. I finally settled on Bright & Earl's brilliant CV. I don't often make good choices, but on this occasion, I think that I chose rather well. There is so much sound and sensible advice. The authors pose many questions and I found myself shouting out..."Yes, that's me"! On page 120, for example, they highlight candidates who just list skills and qualifications as if to say, take it or leave it. That, I have to admit, was me. If they want me they want me, if they don't they don't, type approach. I almost felt that the book was written with me or people like me in mind. I especially liked the achievement and facts balancing act see-saw on page 51. There is much more, of course, including helpful guidance on layout/presentation. I now have what I consider to be a much more professionally constructed CV including a Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section, as recommended by Bright and Earl! In turn, I would recommend this book without either hesitation or reservation. It gave me much food for thought. I am very happy with my "new" CV - whether or not I am promoted!! brilliant CV - brilliant book - 5 stars. Thanks!
