Product Description

Mastering Financial Calculations starts by introducing the fundamentals of financial market arithmetic, including the core concepts of discounting, net present value, effective yields and cashflow analysis, and then shows you step-by-step how to master the essential calculations and financial techniques for using the full range of products in the markets.  The links between the different instruments and the resulting arbitrage opportunities are fully explored, together with the practical difficulties. Making use of many worked examples and practical exercises, the book goes on to explain concepts such as forward pricing, duration analysis, the different approaches to bond yield calculations, zero-coupon and yield curve analysis, swap valuation and option pricing in a clear and accessible way, at each stage illustrating their application using a programmable calculator. Whether you are a trader, fund manager, corporate treasurer, programmer, accountant, risk manager or market student, this book will give you the ability to manipulate and apply the relevant techniques with speed and confidence in your marketplace. The book includes essential course material and practice exercises for ACI qualifications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful and very good, 1 Aug 2001

You know a finance book is a good one when you see seasoned professionals keeping it on their shelves next to Hull (the derivatives book). Although very straight forward and deceptively simple, this book is probably all you need as a reference for your day-to-day calculations (and Hull will fill in for the rest). I have one at work and one at home. You should too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent everyday companion!, 26 April 2004

Well, Steiner has produced a little gem!
As a Banking and Financial Management graduate, I must admit there was alot of financial calculations involved in my course! There were formulasthat you had to learn by heart and always use them when needed (especiallyduring exams)!
This book is the answer to every student's and professional's dreams andrequests! A book that contains MOST OF the mathematic formulas of FINANCEand presented in a simple way that enables every one to fully understandthem and use them right away!
If you want to have a killer combination, buy this book AND the Hull book(regarding financial derivatives) and have them somewhere in your shelvesfor easy and quick reference! I know I've done that and I am extremelyhappy about that!
And that's your troubles regarding financial formulas sorted!
An investment that should be made by every one that wants to knoweverything straight away!
Cheers,
Eleimon

4.0 out of 5 stars Top-notch Finance Textbook, 23 Oct 2000
By A Customer
In its field this book is a rarity. It's short, it's to the point and it's useful. And somehow it makes obscure day-count conventions like 30(A)/360 easy to understand. This one will be in my top drawer for a long time. Marvellous.
