5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting read - Meg Alexander excels again., 8 Aug 2001
By A Customer
So far the best of the Steepwood Scandal books. A riveting combination of family honour, reluctant romance, intrigue and attempted murder set in Regency Britain. While following the traditional lines of all good romantic novels - the feisty heroine, the dark and brooding hero, the niceties of the genteel society of the time - the book raises the reader's awareness of the social background of the period by including historical events that shaped the socio-economic development of Britain in the early 19th century. The plot is excellently thought out, with enough twists and turns to keep you riveted until the last page. It also progresses the underlying subplot of the missing Marchioness with some well-placed nuggets of information - building your curiosity of what actually happened in Steepwood Abbey - which the previous book in the series failed to do. Overall, an exceptional and pleasurable read - highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Steepwood Scandals, 2 Sep 2009
By Xtal "Xtal" (South Coast, UK) - See all my reviews
I am a big fan of Georgette Heyer, and as I have read all her regency romances, I thought I would read these two stories, by other authors. The fact that I have been spoilt by excellence in the past, made these stories less than satisfying. Without prejudice I have to say that there also seemed to be a bit of (Heyer) plagurism in both these stories - just my opinion.

If you want a really good regency romance then try:
'The Grand Sophy, 'Federica', 'Venetia', 'Arabella', 'These Old Shades' and the 'Devils Cub'. All of these are excellent and compelling reading, by Georgette Heyer, but be warned you will get hooked!
