5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendously good read., 5 April 2001
I really enjoyed story of Miss Jane Verey, and The Duke of Delahaye. The Duke originally chooses Miss Jane as bride for his rather wayward younger brother Phillip. However Jane has other ideas and is completely unimpressed by Phillip. Nicola Cornicks book is about how Jane finds herself becoming more and more interested in the Duke and her fight to suppress this feeling.

As with all the other books I have read by the same author I became very attached to the characters and she made both Jane, the Duke and the era come alive for me. I live not from a famous Regency City and everyone time I visit I can imagine her characters driving pass in their carriages or taking a gentle stroll in the gardens. I found it very difficult to put it down once I had started reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Regency by an author who studied history, 28 May 2000

(REAL NAME)
Traditional Regency from an author I had not come across before but I shall be searching for her other books shortly. I liked the fact that both the heroine and heroine were intelligent and the battle of wits between them was excellent. The historical settings seem very accurate, I especially liked the villain, a gentleman who seemed unable to resist temptation when placed in his way. Highly recommended.

From the back of the Mills&Boon Paperback...

A MARRIAGE WILL TAKE PLACE!

After a disastrous marriage, Alex, the Duke of Delahaye, is determined to see his younger brother Philip safely married to provide the necessary heir. Unfortunately the chosen bride, Miss Jane Verey, is less than amenable! Jane wants a husband - eventually! - but she's sure it won't be Philip. Not when it is Alex who makes her pulse leap...

A Regency delight!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read but not exceptional., 2 April 2001
By A Customer
The book tells the story of Miss Jane Verey, chosen by the Duke of Delahaye as a suitable bride for his younger brother Philip. Unfortunately, Jane is not impressed by Philip and refuses to marry him, especially when she meets the Duke and finds she is attracted to him instead.

This is a good enough story to provide a light afternoon's reading. However, it isn't as gripping as it could be. We seem to spend a lot of time covering the same ground and getting nowhere in particular, whilst the denouement lacks tension, flare and interest. Nicola Cornick never manages to suggest that things might end badly. And, whilst we all know that mills and boon romances always end happily, it is something of a let down as it had more scope for danger within its premise.
