I received this book as a birthday present and found it to be very charming and beautiful. The book gathers together all the different poems and songs that are found throughout The Lord of the Rings and also includes wonderful illustrations alongside. If you are a fan of the drawings by Alan Lee that were to be found in the illustrated version of Lord of the Rings then you should buy this book for that reason alone.
If you found in reading The Lord of the Rings that the songs and poems were long winded and boring this is definitely not the book for you.
Ultimately this book should be seen as an extra alongside the Lord of the Rings and as a book that fans would want in order to keep their collection up to date.
People who have not read The Lord of the Rings would probably not understand the poems and Songs with them being out of context.

Some lovely poems, but only one in a non-English tongue (which, with all the Sindarin and Quenya in there, is a waste). The book looks great, and the production is high quality but it's very short. Didn't contain all the songs I was after, but still perfect for a romantic present.
