Product Description

David Spaulding is the most feared and efficient Allied agent in wartime Europe. Expert, deadly and professional, he is also high on the Gestapo's 'most wanted' list. Now Spaulding has been selected by the Allied Command to transact an undercover deal in Argentina involving top secret Nazi scientific plans. The dealer is Erich Rhinemann, an exiled German Jew who is awaiting the end of the war with his millions in an impenetrable retreat near Buenos Aires. But there's something Spaulding doesn't know. The other side of the deal. And it involves the most bizarre, horrific intrigue of the Second World War ... --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the Bourne series, 19 Mar 2008
This review is from: The Rhinemann Exchange (Paperback)
Having suffered through the Osterman Weekend I did not have great hopes for this book. I'm pleased to say I was wrong. It is really good, fast paced, well plotted and has plenty of twists. David Spaulding reminds me some what of the latest incarnation of James Bond, combined with Jason Bourne. He is the best there is but even he is not above being deceived and is definetely not unbeatable. A great book, I have no hesitation recommending it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tale of betrayal, espionage and international shadyness., 1 July 2004
This is a gripping book that starts at a quick pace and only gets faster from there. David Spaulding is the US's man in Lisbon and their best agent in Europe. Franz Altmuller is a high ranking, ruthless Nazi. The plot twists and turns bringing them to the exchange made through a super rich ex-patriote Jew which if made public could cripple both governments.

The protagonist is a well written character, and leaves the reader in the position of thinking "What a guy..." in true Red Dwarf fashion. It's a good book and I advise anybody who likes spy stories, world war two stories, or just a good action packed book to read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compromises of War with a moral but weak ending, 14 Sep 2009

This review is from: The Rhinemann Exchange (Paperback)
It kept me reading and I enjoyed it overall but I was a little let down by the ending which could have been so much more definitive, given the immediate pre history events as reported. It is a little dated inevitably as it based in the time period of the second World War but in the better traditions of the earlier Bond stories the Hero's Brains win the day rather than the brawn or the gadgets, which are non existent. Happy to carry on reading Ludlum in consequence.
