3.0 out of 5 stars A DIY adult piano tutor with sing-along songs., 12 Sep 2002
By R. G. Matthews (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found this tutor useful to refer to when my adult pupils needed to play something they recognised in order to feel more confident about what they were playing. The tutor has a good progression to teaching other keys after spending some time in "C" position. Unfortunately, like so many adult tutors, the pupil starts to rely on the fingering being marked in and this is overdone and unnecessary. Since it is a DIY tutor, there is a lot of reading, which can make the book seem a bit crowded. Not suitable for youngsters as they prefer pictures every now and again to keep their concentration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for adults, 21 Mar 2008
I bought this book ten years ago when I was a complete beginner and understood nothing about music. This book taught me nearly everything I know about music. I've seen other books, including the How to Play Keyboards by the same author, but this book stands out as by far the best. I've always used a keyboard and I feel this book on the piano is still best for people learning to play on a keyboard.

I found nearly all of the music enjoyable and pitched at just the right level. Each new piece of music is slightly more advanced until at the end of the book the music becomes challenging. I would recommend this book to anyone starting to learn the piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful to beginners, 21 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Roger Evans' books are targeted at the musical beginners, explaining music, notation, the instrument and basic exercises in simple, friendly, language. It's a simple, tutorial-rich, means of getting into music and the specific instrument. Very valuable.
