4.0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for would-be Location Managers worldwide, 5 Jul 2001
By A Customer
This book attempts to explain the many duties of a film and television location manager - a task, hitherto, I thought impossible. As far as I know it is the only book of its kind on this subject.

Maier has clearly thought long and hard about the structure of his book. Each chapter is well-written and worth mentioning.

He deals with most of the aspects of the business from location scouting, photography, handling relationships with other members of a film crew right up to running the shoot on the day. He also shares his won methods of remaining organised with his pre-printed location forms.

It should be noted that the book could do with a bit of an update - he still talks about carrying vast quantities of loose change with you for making phone calls - and it is in principal, an American book. Nonetheless, there is plenty in there for location managers from elsewhere around the globe.

Overall, I found it enjoyable, eye-opening and interesting. This book should be read by anyone wanting to become a location manager (if only to put them off one of the most stressful careers in the film industry) and probably by several current Location Managers.
