I am a second year Special Effects student and I came across this item while looking for a book about SFX which would give me ideas and information on techniques and materials. This sounded like just what I was looking for!

After months of it being on my wishlist I finally had the money to buy it. However, I was immediately dissappointed with what I had purchased. For starters, I was sad to see that all the pictures in this book are black and white. Not what you wanna see in a SFX book! The amount of pictures was a bit dismal too. The book talks about a few techniques and methods but all are very similar to each other and go into much too detailed descriptions... entires chapters actually. The same thing goes for the informaion they give about materials... The info is certainly there but the text drags on and on, making a topic that should be so interesting into something that is boring and hard to handle. The entire book seems to be surrounded by the tales and works of a few artists in the field from years back who have got the chance to show off there stuff, not to teach or inspire you. The book is in no way modern, except for maybe, the front cover which is cool.

This item is not keeper. There are better books out there, but from experience, they are difficult to find.
