As I am still teaching myself Flash MX 2004, I have found myself referring back to this book for advice on many aspects of Flash from the basic to the advanced. With many illustrations among the pages, it was very easy to follow each step appling them straight to my learning. I would recommend this book to anyone from beginner level to experienced as it makes a good learning tool if not a reference guide for the experienced! But the fact is that this book, like most other computer-related publications, is in essence a reference guide. Such works stand or fall by the quality of their index, and in this respect the Focal Easy Guide to Flash MX2004 is a miserable failure. Consult the index for "tweening", for example, and what do you find? Absolutely nothing. Or what about "keyframes"? Zilch. Try to find "marker" - you won't. Time and again, I've gone to the index for explanation about some basic aspect of Flash and found it lacking. Instead I've had to waste time thumbing through the book until I find what I need. What's more, the book it littered with typos, and the picture captions, bafflingly, up-cap nearly every word. It's a shame because somewhere behind the badly thought-out aspects of this work is a good beginner's guide trying to get out. Comment Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you?
