Review
"I thoroughly recommend that all those who aspire to making better and more efficiently produced animated movies should get this book as their starting place for their journey, or as renewed inspiration for those already journeying." Tony White
"This book is an essential read for any person wishing to enter into media studies" Bob Godfrey
"Written in a clear, accessible style and densely illustrated throughout, this book is aimed at beginners, as well as intermediate users, who want to take their animations to the next level." www.dingbatmag.com
'This book has one very important point in its favour - the author makes it very clear that the human touch is still an essential part of the [animation] process ... it is an excellent introduction to anyone contemplating working in 2D computer animation. The text is clear and concise and there is minimum of techno-jargon.'
Pat Raine Webb, The Dope Sheet, ASIFA

Product Description
A practical introduction to working with computer animation systems. The book is written by an animation professional who has an in-depth knowledge of the leading software: Animo and Toonz. Hedley Griffin writes in a simple way that guides the reader through each technique in a step-by-step manner. An introductory chapter demonstrates how to achieve different animation styles on the computer as well as fundamentals such as storyboarding, the preparation of drawings and scanning issues. Practical tutorials then take you step-by-step through the essential techniques, with illustrations to show you how it's done. A CD-ROM at the back of the book includes colour examples and animation movie clips of the techniques described in the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A book with an identity crisis, 2 Sep 2001
By A Customer
The intentions of this book are admirable; to give a generic overview of a contemporary practice that through the idiosyncractic nature of operating systems and applications is naturally diverse. The result however, is a book that is somewhere between a comprehensive animation "how to" book and a software manual; either of which offer significantly more in their respective roles. The "computer" terminology is poorly explained and presumptuous, considering the "guide for elementary students" tone. This consistent tone is also contradicted when the author falls into the trap, given that this is a generic overview, of becoming as specific as offering keyboard shortcuts for "some" applications. Without the application open and the student engaged in a tutorial exercise, this level of instruction is meaningless. As an animation tutor I would be reluctant to reccommend this book to my students while we still have Kit Laybourne and software manuals.
