Product Description

Product Description

With organic food sales growing at around 40 percent a year, interest in healthy eating and living is increasing. Even the supermarkets have acknowledged the demand for organic food and most provide a wide range of organic products. Recent food scares about genetically modified organisms (GMOs), pesticides in baby foods and BSE have made us all more concerned about the food and drink we consume. This healthier attitude can be applied across every aspect of our lives from the clothes we wear to the beds we sleep on. The Complete Book of Green Living shows how you can lead a more organic lifestyle by making just a few simple changes to your life. It has information on green and organic products for your home and garden, as well as tips on how to make green living fun, rather than a chore. The Complete Book of Green Living shows you how to improve the quality of your wellbeing and that of the planet on a day-to-day level. It is a useful guide for people who want to live organically, whether on a large or small scale. Far more than just a green consumer guide, it contains information on everything from how to grow your own organic fruit and vegetables to different methods of conserving energy; it also offers advice on recycling household waste and eco-friendly interior decoration. The Complete Book of Green Living is an invaluable sourcebook that will inspire you to make changes close to home which could have far-reaching implications.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic starting point..., 4 Aug 2003
By A Customer
As someone keen to embark on a more organic and environmentally friendly lifestyle this book is a great place to start. It covers a diversity of topics about how to achive greener living in the home and garden in a clear and easy to read format. This is a real coffee table book as it is easy to dip into in a spare five minutes and looks great too! Each page has eye catching facts and loads of tips giving practical ways to make a difference to your lifestyle, which are easy to do. My only grumble with this book is because of the large diversity of topics covered it does not go into as much depth with some areas as one might wish, but as a good practical starting point for green living it is a winner!

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of Ideas, 7 Jul 2005

There are enough ideas in this book on how to embark upon a more green lifestyle to last a lifetime. It examines every aspect of life in the home from a green perspective and looks at the ideal way to approach each one.

The best thing about it is that you don't have to do everything! Some of the most effective ideas are actually quite simple to do. When you've implemented one recommendation in your life the next one doesn't seem so difficult. I only read the book a month ago and already I've changed lots of small things that I buy or use without any great effort or expense.

3.0 out of 5 stars Friendly, functional, forgetable, 30 Mar 2009

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This is a reasonably well organised and produced set of guidelines for green living, but it's certainly not remarkable. Functional, yes, and quite neatly laid out, but hardly one of the most dynamic or inspiring reads you are likely to enjoy in your lifetime.

The book aims to help you reduce reliance on fossil fuels, escape from pesticides and toxins, cut out the buying of plastic, achieve efficient levels of recycling, and make use of sustainable resources. All very laudable, and you will be given simple explanations of how, where, when, and why to make changes in your lifestyle.

You'll get an invitation to review energy use in the home, and advice on how to reduce it. Room by room you'll be given green or greener options for making your lifestyle comfortable, including advice on how to set up a green office or workplace at home. There are also chapters on the greenhouse and garden.

Overall, it's quite useful and quite comprehensive, it just doesn't inspire me. Perhaps it's the absence of illustrations and diagrams - I can't help feeling that a book about changing your lifestyle should be bulging with flowcharts and to-do checklists, etc. Or maybe I'm just growing neurotic in my old age? It really doesn't get beyond the average in my estimation.
