Product Description

Product Description

Detailing the programme's fascinating origins, this book reveals the personalities behind the ever-popular Countdown. As well as humorous profiles on the show's core presenters, there are insights into everyone involved with the show: from the production executives to the audience warm up man. Spreading the Word takes the reader behind the scenes on the Countdown set for the very first time. Following a typical day in the Countdown studio, author's (and the show's producers) Michael Wylie and Damian Eadie reveal the studio gaffs and cock-ups that never made it to air. From celebrity tales of their own Countdown experiences, through profiles of the Countdown Gods and Goddesses, to a nationwide tour of Countdown fans as the reader is taken on the road for the programme's auditions, meet all the people involved in making the programme the success it is. Packed full of anecdotes and stories, the experiences of everyone from the famous faces to those that never made it, this is an hilarious vivid and surprisingly honest journey behind the scenes at Countdown. And there's all the factual information you could ever want on the show: the classic games and results, a list of celebrities that have appeared on the show, a list of every contestant, the winners and runners-up. Irreverent in tone, and hilariously funny, Countdown: Spreading the Word is the compelling and mind-bending companion to this classic series and the only book tied to the series to take the reader behind-the-scenes, into the unique world of Countdown.

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, informative and irresistably addictive reading., 5 Dec 2001
By A Customer
I've always loved watching Countdown, but now after reading this book, co-written by the shows producers, i love it even more.

We are taken on a journey through the day in the life of a contestant and a producer - and the humourous approach makes for very addictive reading. The stories and gossip in the book are fascinating and some of the tales told by Damian Eadie, the dictionary corner hunk and producer, are cleverly put together and bring tears to your eyes.

Fans of the programme will love this book - no wonder Richard Whiteley keeps on plugging it so much - it's worth every penny, and there's the added bonus of some puzzles in there too.

Be very careful when using this web site- If you use the'buy with one click' you will have a delivery charge in spite of the item showing free delivery'.
There is nothing to show this until you have entered the order and the confirmation e mail to you. At no time do you have the opportunity to 'confirm' your order before it is placed and you cannot cancel even if it is immediate. Should you speak to someone on their 0800 496 1081 free number they are in the USA and very difficult to understand.
In short use an UK web site and one which is straightforward!
