An ITV institution of the 1960s, when it was presented by Bamber Gascoigne the show even featured contestants who have gone on to become superstars in their own rights (such as Stephen Fry). Off air for almost ten years, University Challenge was brought back in 1994, with a new, equally distinctive presenter, Jeremy Paxman. In the show, two colleges or universities compete against each other by answering tough questions on subjects as diverse as anclent Greek mythology and rocket science.
