Product Description

Book Description

The life and times of Aidensfield through the pages of the Ashfordly Gazette (Aidensfield Edition). An essential companion to the hugely successful television series, The Heartbeat Chronicles tells the story of the popular series through the Aidensfield edition of Heartbeat's local newspaper the Ashfordly Gazette. Filled with articles based on the drama in the series, and packed with photos, The Heartbeat Chronicles also reports on famous national events from the 60s.

Among the interesting finds during a spot Spring cleaning at the end of 1998 in preparation for a new crime fighting force for a new millennium, the Police Sergeant of Aidensfield found a collection of back copies of the Aidensfield edition of the Ashfordly Gazette. Discovered gathering dust in a little-used cupboard, they initially appeared to be nothing more than a pile of old newspapers but so fascinating did they prove that even the sergeant temporarily abandoned the spring-cleaning session to leaf through the pages. They formed an invaluable chronicle of life in Aidensfield in the mid 1960s, a period of time recaptured by the hugely successful television series Heartbeat. The proprietors of the Gazette have generously given permission for selected pages from this archive material to be reproduced in book form.

Remember when the rural tranquillity of Aidensfield was shattered by a siege at a remote farm. Remember the harrowing episode when Dr Rowan died just 11 days after giving birth to a baby girl. Remember PC Rowan leaving the area and the arrival of PC Mike Bradley. Through the pages of the local newspaper, we remember every key episode of this ever-popular series but we also go back in time and rekindle memories of real news events in The World About Us. These range from the Queen's announcement that she will name her youngest son Edward to the exciting news that air travel has gone supersonic with the unveiling of Concorde as well as a special World Cup edition of the paper. And, using all the latest printing technology, the Ashfordly Gazette also gives its dedicated readership two colour supplements featuring interviews with the current cast of Heartbeat. Studded throughout with atmospheric adverts and news titbits as well as hundreds of photographs, The Heartbeat Chronicles is a unique celebration of a highly popular programme and a fascinating insight into the life and times of the people of Aidensfield.

4.0 out of 5 stars punchy and comprehensive, 2 Dec 1999
Ingenious - the Heartbeat story told in the pages of the Ashfordly Gazette. The Heartbeat Chronicles is a compilation of the very best stories from across the years of the fabulous television series, all told in the context of the national events of the time. It was a trip down memory lane and in my opinion if you are a fan of the series this book is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars interviews with the stars and a look behind the scenes, 2 Dec 1999
What a treat for a Grafters fan like myself - this illustrated inside story of the fabulous TV series includes interviews with the stars, the writes and the crew, the book goes behind the cameras to reveal the inspiration for the series and the storylines, how the cast prepare to play their characters and what they really think of the people they play. Full of amusing stories and brilliant pictures it gives the reader a unique insiders view of what goes into making a successful television programme. Brilliant - a must for all fans.
