2.0 out of 5 stars Far too brief, 27 Nov 2005
By S. Saunders (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book contains less than 200 paperback pages - to me, several volumes of this size would be needed to fully cover Bremner's extraordinary career.

As a result, the whole thing is much too brief. Even the very important matches of his career - of which there were many - are skimmed over far too quickly. Events such as the four FA Cup Finals, the big European matches, his confrontations with MacKay and Keegan, the disallowed goals against Chelsea in '67 and Bayern in '75, and the offside "non-decision" against West Brom in '71; all these and many other moments in his career are not given the "full treatment". Indeed, you almost get the impression that they were non-events.

Whatever team you supported back in Leeds' heyday, there can be little doubt that Billy Bremner was one of the world's great football captains. He fully deserves a biography that does justice to both him and the great Leeds side that he lead. Unfortunately, this book doesn't come even close to achieving that.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BALLAD OF BILLY BREMNER!!!!, 17 Jul 2001
ODE TO THE CAPTAIN OF ELLAND ROAD --- WELL THEY CALL HIM BILLY BREMNER, YOU'LL NEVER FORGET HE'S LEEDS -- HE WAS MADE TO PLAY FOR SCOTLAND -- NOW HE CAPTAINS UNITED AT LEEDS.

WELL HIS HAIR IS RED AND FUZZY -- AND HIS BODIES BLACK AND BLUE -- FOR THE SAKE OF LEEDS UNITED HE'D BREAK HIMSELF IN TWO.

Billy Bremner is everything that was good about Leeds in the 60s/70s and his brief sojourn as manager in the eighties was graced with a season of nearly - play-off final and FA Cup semi-final.Who can forget BILLY BREMNERS BARMY ARMY?. He was the old breed of footballer and a real character. This a really worthy biography and a must for all Leeds fans both old and new. I am a Leeds fan but enjoy other biographys and I am sure fans from other clubs will enjoy this book.

He was 100% Leeds and is sadly missed- but his memory lives on and this book is a nice reminder of his acievements and life.

R.I.P. Billy!
