4.0 out of 5 stars Black Magic, 24 Dec 2000
As an avid Roger Black fan it could be assumed I would give this book a positive appraisal regardless of content. However, I was suitably impressed with this insight into the athlete's rollercoaster of a career. The book charts all aspects of his rise to fame, from the hardships of his injury and illness to the peak of his success and winning an Olympic Silver Medal. His diary extracts are fascinating and provoke such empathy. This is a must read whether or not you are a Roger Black fan. Truly inspirational.

3.0 out of 5 stars A compeling tale of an athletes fun, frustration and fatigue, 29 May 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How Long's the Course? (Paperback)
This book is a well constructed tale of Roger Black's life. It deals with his health problems (His heart) his expiereces as a child and adolescent but prodimantly his success as an athlete. He writes about his battles with injury and illness his fight with fever. He describes his rise and fall. His Olympic games silver medal and his retirement after his failure to gain entrance into the European championships.

This book is an intresting insite to the life of one of Britain's finest athletes. Although old Blackie (The term he describes as derogitary) does ponder some what and feel sorry for himself a little. You can not help but be consumed by his expierence of the 1996 Olympic games.
