The judges have seen nearly 10,000 potential popstars in their quest to find the best new talent that the nation has to offer. Auditions have been held throughout the summer in London, Manchester and Glasgow with just 20 10 boys and 10 girls being asked to join the judges live in the TV studios in London. The cameras have been there every step of the way recording the all the tears, traumas and tantrums of the all important whittling down process.
The future of these 20 hopefuls then lies in the hands of the public. TV viewers will decide the fate of the wannabes and will shape the final line-up of the bands. And performing in the band might not be enough the finalists also have to live together. During the series the 20 hopefuls will live side by side in special Popstars houses one for the boys and one for the girls. Popstars: The Rivals will create both a boy-band and a girl-band who will both gain a record contract the girls will be signed to Polydor while the boy band will be signed to PWL. They will then simultaneously release singles and go head to head in a bid to reach the top spot.
