This book has turned out to be one that I shall refer to many times for guidance on my pilgrim path of Christianity. The title is attractive and catches your attention, how many of us have desires and are unsure how to handle them or better still how to understand them. Philip Sheldake gives us six chapters of riveting reading about Desires and furthers our understanding of desire and spirituality. He draws on scripture and writings of other spiritual authors to enhance our understanding and bring delight in reading this book. Not to be digested quickly but to read and savour, reflect and act apon in our everyday life as we make time to commune with our Creator. I am amazed at how I have devoured this book and how it has generated further thinking and praying from me that I was totally unprepared for. When I reached the final chapter which was entitled 'To seek forever: desire and change' I heard myself shout "Yes please!" The book was brought to my attention from reading 'Taste and See' by Margaret Silf which was in itself an excellent read. Sheldrake's book promoted a thirst for more spiritual reading and praying and that can only be a good thing. Read this and you will move on in your chrisitan understanding of our desires and how God can use them to His good within our lives.
