Product Description

Product Description
Edwardo is an ordinary boy, so sometimes he can be a bit grubby or clumsy, a bit cruel or noisy or rude. The more that he is criticised, the worse he becomes, until one day they call him 'The Horriblest Boy in the Whole Wide World'. Just then, Edwardo's luck begins to change, and a series of chance events reveal that really he is a lovely boy, and has been all along.

From the Back Cover
Edwardo is the horriblest boy in the whole wide world. He must be, because that's what everyone tells him.

A touching and thought-provoking story from the incomparable John Burningham, creator of such classics as Mr Grumpy's Outing and Oi! Get Off Our Train.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thank GOD for this book!, 15 May 2007
I'm a teacher in training. In my final block practice I was placed with another student for a bit, so we alternated between literacy and numeracy.

On the plus side it meant half the work. On the negative side it meant that I was landed with John Burningham as my author because my colleague chose him the week prior.

I don't dislike Burningham. His illustrations are lovely and The Shopping Basket has some scope, but generally his books don't have a great deal of substance (for example, Mr Gumpy - ergh).

I managed to milk TSB for all it was worth, but when I had to teach 'change in a character over time' I was stumped. Thank god for this book is all I can say.

Basically a boys character changes because of the way he is treated. It isn't War and Peace, but it did the job. There are better books for children on this subject and it is probably better suited as a cautionary tale for parents or teachers.
