Product Description

Product Description

Chuck Palahniuk's world has been, well, different from yours and mine. The pieces that comprise Nonfiction prove just how different, in ways both highly entertaining and deeply unsettling. Encounters with alternative culture heroes Marilyn Manson and Juliette Lewis; the peculiar wages of fame attendant on the big budget film production of the movie Fight Club; life as an assembly-line drive train installer by day, hospice volunteer driver by night; the really peculiar lives of submariners; the really violent world of college wrestlers; the underground world of anabolic steroid gobblers; the harrowing circumstances of his father's murder and the trial of his killer - each essay or vignette offers a unique facet of existence as lived in and/or observed by one of America's most flagrantly daring and original literary talents.

About the Author

Chuck Palahniuk is the author of Fight Club (made into a film by director David Fincher), Survivor, Invisible Monsters, Choke, Lullaby and Diary. He lives in Portland, Oregon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely eclectic..., 2 Nov 2004
By Mr. BJ WISSETT (Liverpool UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book, a collection of essays and short pieces written by Chuck over the past few years, was an excellent read. Although it wasn't as engaging as, for instance, Lullaby or Fight Club, it was quite fascinating to see where he found the inspiration for his stories, as well as finding out the lengths that Chuck would go to to research the background for his books.

Overall, if you're a fan of his work, then this is recommended. If you've not read anything by him, I'd say you need to read Fight Club, Survivor and Lullaby amongst others before you have a look at this. But once you have read those, then do try to pick this up, because it'll give you a greater appreciation for his work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Genius, with hints of boredom, 21 Sep 2004
Chuck is one of my favourites and there are so many gems in this collection of his non-fiction (duh!) works. Essays, articles and interviews, with the last category being where Chuck falls down. His interviews are hardly captivating and can be dull. Though any fan should buy this for his enthusing on his favourite authors, hints on how he works and snippets of life after the success of Fight Club. Vital, though flawed.
