2.0 out of 5 stars Heavy going turgid book, 17 Mar 2001
This review is from: If He Lived (Paperback)
This is an extremely hard going disturbing book. I really found myself ploughing through it, which is unuasual. it seems to ahve little direction to it, and the dee;ply disturbing finale is a little out of keeping with the rest of the book. The most interesting character, Dr Marit Sonnenfield is dramatically underused, and none of the other characters seemed real to me. There were pages of debate into the meaning of the manifistation but little real explanation or narrative. If you have an interest in this field you would probably get a lot more from the bok however, but if not I would not reccomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, chilling and thought provoking., 3 Feb 2000
By A Customer
The tag 'horror' doesn't really do justice to this elegant and profound piece of work. Fink is a masterly writer and the portrayal of a lonely middle aged woman in an awkward marriage being plagued by the ghost of a young boy has many layers other than the haunting. Quite wonderful.
