Product Description

Product Description
Aimed at the ATM implementor responsible for supporting the next generation of applications on the corporate network, this text discusses ATM in local and wide area, comparing it to competing technologies and evaluating the differing ATM architectures in relation to existing environments.

From the Author
First ATM book for network designers and implementers...
This book picks up where the others leave off, looking at the whys and hows of implementing the technology within an enterprise internetwork. We focus on implementing the standards from both the ATM Forum and the IETF such as LAN Emulation, Classical IP, and even voice and video. It answers the questions 'which standards are relevant; what is their status; how do they fit together?', 'which devices should be deployed for a given application environment?', 'how do I configure these devices?' and 'what should I watch out for?'

2.0 out of 5 stars Only for people who already understand ATM, 26 Feb 1999
By A Customer
I regret buying this book. Its exposition of the basic concepts is poor. In the section on AAL5, for example, the author digresses into detail only of interest to experts whilst explaining the basic concepts. This book has a VHAD (Very High Acronym Density). Although the book includes a glossary and a list of acronym expansions they are both incomplete. The author needs to work through the entire book line by line and make sure every acronym is in the list of acronym expansions or better still the glossary. If you understand ATM already though, there is a wealth of information here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, comprehensive and useful., 22 April 1999
By A Customer
A very useful book, broad in scope and clear in presentation I found it to be a reliable source. The only irritation; acronyms are allowed to flourish to an oppressive degree.

Good value

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ATM book out there, clear, concise, informative, 5 Mar 1999
By A Customer
this is a new and complex arena. I have found a lot of books too elemental or just a rehash of the standards. This book clearly positions the technology in a modern datacomms environment, and explains it with a number of technologys. Clear and concise, this book will explain when and when not to use ATM. I agree however, that this is an experts book, and you should have a very sound knowledge of datacomms.

2.0 out of 5 stars ATM : But nothing to do with cash machines...
This book whilst being highly informative and technical, it doesn't really explain things to the slightly less understanding people. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars ATM: Acronym Training Method
This book is very dry and best used as a supplement for another book. If you are just starting out then this book is not for you. The price is good though.
