2.0 out of 5 stars Nice reference book, but where's did the C++ go?, 12 Aug 2002
By A Customer
As a Windows API reference, this book is pretty good. It covers most of the functions you will need to get started with Windows programming. However, this information could all be gleened from the MSDN library which happens to be free online.

To continue this point, it claims to teach Windows programming. If reading MSDN's function reference is teaching in a beginners eyes, then this book is excellent. However, once again, better material is available on the Web.

Finally, the most annoying part, where did the C++ go? The only C++ code I could find was using the new operator as opposed to malloc()! This was the reason I bought it too. I could do Windows programming in C, I wanted to know how to do it in an OOP way. (Ironically, I found out eventually by using MSDN not this book)

To cap it all, as soon as it got to DirectX, it skipped into C++ just as MSDN does! If he must use C, stick to it.
