I decided it was time to try some Windows programming and thought that Visual Basic would make a change from the usual Java/Javascript programs I write. I needed a quick introduction to the language that did not patronise me or waste my time. This book seemed to be the one for me.

This covers the basics of the language very rapidly, assuming you have some knowledge of programming this makes learning the language a breeze. It gives enough information to get you started and act as a reference if you need to go back and re-check things. Fast and useful, basically.

Only two problems. I might have liked a bit more detail about the programming environment (the DataEnvironment in particular) and there are some howling errors in a few of the code listings. These can be momentarily confusing, but if you have programming experience it is easy enough to see what the author should have written. These flaws are not bad enough to stop me from highly recommending this book to anyone who does not want to be patronised when learning VB. I hope it is updated for VB.NET.
