Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Macromedia's Dreamweaver is one of the most empowering Web development tools on the market--even folks with no HTML coding experience can become productive Web designers. Dreamweaver 3 Hands-On Training is a fine companion to this application, presented in a style that dovetails nicely with Dreamweaver's user-friendly nature.

The book is a great jumping-off guide for users new to Dreamweaver. Authors Lynda Weinman and Garo Green skilfully weave hands-on exercises into general topical introductions. This means you'll learn right away about subjects such as layers, for example, and, as you go, you'll find out about relevant browser compatibility issues. Its style makes the book both fast-paced and engaging--it won't bore you with what mark-up languages are, and the various flavours of HTML.

The accompanying CD-ROM is key. In addition to trial versions of Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Netscape and Microsoft browsers, plus a few crucial plug-ins, it contains example files organised by book chapter. Fortunately, the exercises move along quickly, demonstrating various techniques for performing operations. In one chapter, for example, you might be asked to open Web pages individually into the program, while in another you'll be shown how to attach a "site" to the folder that contains the files and work from there.

Dreamweaver is a fun program with which to work, and this tutorial is right on the mark. Even if you're just finding your Web legs in site design and want to give Dreamweaver a whirl, this book is worth purchasing. --Stephen W Plain

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll be flying in no time, 17 Mar 2003
Excellent way of learning this complicated (AT FIRST) yet powerfull software. It teaches you about all the tools, while making a pre-arranged site. All the time you are thinking of your own ideas for when you've finished. All the time you are thinking "excellent tools or what?" By the end, it all makes perfect sense. Unlike most web page design books, it makes UTP easy, and explains things very well. It's easy when you know how.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC - NO MORE WORDS NEEDED, 11 Dec 2001
Having got a copy of DW3 last week, and working only 1 hour per night, I have already published my first site.

The book couldn't make things any easier for the reader.

All books should be written in this format and then other software packages would become more straight forward.

5*'s and a big thank you. Worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Superb Book, 25 Aug 2001
After getting hold of Dreamweaver and seeing my screen fill with lots of confusing windows, I realized that I needed some training manual as I'm not technical by nature and the book that came with the program looked like very hard work.

I was planning on buying the 'Dummies Guide', but was put off by several bad reviews for this one, whereas there were several glowing reviews for H.O.T. and so I decided to give it a try.

I'm so glad that I did - H.O.T. should be subtitled 'Dreamweaver 3 for COMPLETE Dummies'!

I have to say that even someone as totally technically inept as myself is flying through the book. The author really does expect no prior knowledge to the program at all and explains patiently as to exactly what you need to do and why. The book might be daunting initially as it contains nearly 600 pages. Most of this, however, is taken up by screenshots and so I found myself flying through the book at a page a minute in the early stages, which gives a great sense of accomplishment.

The author, Lynda Weinman, is a teacher by trade and she says in her introduction how crazy it is that most guides are written by people with no knowledge of teaching. After reading this book, I can see that it does make a huge difference.

I would imagine that anyone experienced with the program might think it beneath them, but if you really are a complete novice, then I doubt that you'll find a book that's as easy to use as this one.
