Boakes - See all my reviews    Anybody who already has a grasp of Jini and J2ME, or indeed anybody who can work out what the J in J2ME stands for, will probably find this book sparse and limited. As I approached the hundredth page (of 300+) I was of the opinion that, although the first few chapters had been somewhat repetitive in their content, this would no doubt be beneficial as the book progressed into complexity, depth and (oh the joy of it) dirty technical issues. I was somewhat stunned therefore to find that this book finished on page 106. The rest of the book was padded with an API almanac. The availability of a network connection for developers is ubiquitous these days, so the usefulness of an out of date almanac is questionable. Had the book been less expensive, and not contained the padding, it would have been worth giving it to a colleague for an evening's read (for that's all it took me) perhaps to seed a discussion. I cannot recommend this book to anyone. I would, as an alternative recommend reading a few online introductions, for that is all this book manages, repeatedly, repeating itself with repetition, on repeated occasions.  Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you?
