Amazon.co.uk Review
Dreamweaver 3 is a leading Web authoring tool for both Windows and Macintosh. This book covers both, and in around 500 fully illustrated pages provides an accessible and informative guide.
The style of the book follows a consistent format. For each topic, there are step-by-step instructions along with well-captioned screen illustrations. Tips are shown at the end of each topic. Tinted panels show content that does not fit the step-by-step format, such as reference or background information. This task-based approach makes the book a handy reference if you have a question such as, "how do I set up a rollover image?". No previous knowledge is assumed, and the book is aimed at beginners or intermediate users.
This is a hands-on tutorial and you will be creating simple Web pages right from the beginning. There is a brief guide to HTML coding, but most of the book is about using Dreamweaver's visual tools. The early chapters on the basics, such as text formatting, images, links, tables and frames. Later chapters cover Cascading Style Sheets, positioning with layers, using JavaScript behaviours, and creating animated effects with Dreamweaver Timelines. With clear explanations and attractive layout, this title provides all you need to know to get started with Dreamweaver. It does not provide the depth of a book like Dreamweaver 3 Bible, but on the other hand it is easier to read and more manageable to hold. Dreamweaver's own manual is good but terse, and this Visual Quickstart Guide provides an excellent companion for those who want to get up to speed quickly. --Tim Anderson
