Product Description

Product Description

The first edition of The Photoshop Wow! Book set new standards for computer book publishing. Readers found techniques and solutions developed by renowned artists and designers, plus no-nonsense practical advice on using the software, and galleries of professional artwork for print, multimedia, video, and film.

The Photoshop 4 Wow! Book has been thoroughly revised with new tips and techniques, new projects, and hundreds of new illustrations. Readers will learn how to make the best use of the new tools and keyboard shortcuts, Adjustment layers, Actions and Navigator palettes, and Photoshop's new features for creating graphics for the World Wide Web.

Included is a CD-ROM filled with hundreds of dollars' worth of filters, photos, and prerecorded "Actions" for special effects that readers can apply to their own images, as well as sample applications and other goodies.

The book has won the International Digital Imaging Association's "Most Useful Book" award, the Computer Press Association's award for the "Best Advanced How-To Software Book," and the Publishers Marketing Association's "Benjamin Franklin award for "Best Computer Book."

Teachers: Linnea and Jack have created a suggested course guide to help you use The Photoshop 4 Wow! Book and its accompanying CD-ROM as a text for classes in computer imaging and design using Adobe Photoshop. It's available in Peachpit's Acadmic Resource Area.

From the Author

Readers should be sure to check out the Actions on the CD!
Hello - I just wanted to encourage readers who buy the book to check out the Wow! Actions (in the Wow! Goodies folder on the CD-ROM). Jack has come up with more than 60 "one-click" macros for painterly and photographic effects, as well as graphics special effects for bevels, carving, chrome, crystal, brushed steel, drop and cast shadows, and so on. And with the comping photos provided by PhotoDisc, you can run each Action on the appropriate photo, compare the result to the poster of examples that's bound into the back of the book, and then dissect the finished file. We've left the files with layers, Adjustment layers, masks, and channels intact, so you can see how the effect is accomplished. The Actions can of course be applied to your own files - singly or in batches. "Stop" steps in the Actions guide you in making entries in dialog boxes for the Action steps. So you can change filter and other settings - for instance, if you want a stronger effect, or if your file is significantly larger or smaller than the sample. So don't forget to check out the Actions! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best all-round Photoshop Book!, 29 April 2003
By S. Dale "Mac Aficionado" (Colchester, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is ideal for the novice and the experienced user of Photoshop, even versions later than 4. It covers 9 major areas of Photoshop techniques such as Selections, masks, Layers and Channels (section 2) and Montage and Collage (section 3) as well as using filters, painting, postscript, special effects and the web.

It uses colour graphics and photographs in abundance, and gives clear step-by-step instructions on how to achieve results. You would be hard-pressed to just stumble across these techniques and I haven't yet come across a better and clearer book on how to achieve many of the effects illustrated in this book.

Although the book covers Photoshop version 4, the later editions covering later versions don't differ too much and you could still apply most of what it says to later versions.

I have used this book for a few years and it has taught me most of what I know about Photoshop. Definately in my top 5 Photoshop books of all time. I'm going to get the latest edition as I've just upgraded to version 7!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very educational and a fun time., 1 Feb 2000
When I bought the book my skill were at amateur-level. After reading it I got a job as a webdesigner. A very clever and colourful way to learn a complicated state-of-the-art graphics designprogram. Thanks Dayton and Davis I've just ordered The Photoshop 5.0/5.5 Wow! Book!

By A Customer
I was not able to use this book. I found it confusing and overly technical.
