5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic starting text for everyone interested in evolution, 15 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This book was recommended by my university department as a finalist book for undergraduate study. Unlike other course texts, this book is easy to read.
At first glance, it's large size is a little offputting, but once opened and skimmed for the first time it's size is explained. Evolution is a vast topic. This book aims to inform the reader about how the theories have developed over the years.
Non-technical language and pictures mean that each section is easy to read and leaves you with a sense of accomplishment.

It is not necessary to be a student to enjoy this book, but I wouldn't suggest it for light bedtime reading - only for it's sheer size (1088 pages!)

If you are looking for something more than a general overview and history of evolution then this may not be for you, but if you want to start from the beginning, I haven't found a better book.
