Product Description

Product Description

Macromedia's Dreamweaver 2 is the upgrade to its cross-platform visual tool for creating sophisticated Web sites. Building on the phenomenal success of the previous version, Dreamweaver 2, a WYSIWYG authoring tool which supports stylesheets, DHTML, JavaScript, table-making, and other high-end visual features, is about to take the web-authoring world by storm - again.

Surfing the same wave of success is Dreamweaver 2 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide, the essential, visually rich guide to Dreamweaver 2. Whether readers are just starting to learn the basics of Web page design or looking to build on their Web design expertise, this book will give them a thorough grounding in Dreamweaver's capabilities. Nearly every chapter goes beyond Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG visual editing and delves into working with the code to enhance Web pages.

From the Author
I wrote this book with real people in mind.
First of all, I'm a she, not a he. :)

Contrary to the review written by an author with a competing title, this book includes much more than you'll find in any product manual. I explain each component of Dreamweaver in painstaking detail, but without being overly verbose. That's why there are so many pictures!

The book is written so that you can flip around and find the information you need to get started right away in creating a single page or an entire web site. My examples are simple enough so that the book is modular, but I include lots of cross references to other topics if you want to learn more than what you initially looked up.

If you're an absolute beginner, you can start at the beginning and work your way through, from creating a basic page, to using tables, frames, and forms, all the way to Dynamic HTML, server-side includes, and XML templates.

If you're a more advanced user, I include lots of tips, tricks, and shortcuts for both the WYSIWYG and straight HTML code modes of working.

I'm a real person, and I wrote this book for real people with work to get done.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too bad for words, 14 Oct 1999
By A Customer
After 20 years in IT this is probably the worse computer book I've had the misfortune to read. To say it's badly reseached would be a compliment. The author seems to have restricted herself to theMacromedia web site and the user guide. If she can't find the information there she dismisses a problem with a comment along the lines of "experiment for yourself and see what happens". One of the reason's to buy books of this nature is so we don't have to experiment for ourselves to see what happens. The book is also poorly presented. All the illustrations are in greyscale, nothing wrong with that except that the text refers to part of the illustration hilited in yellow. The background of the illustration is grey, the yellow hilite maps to grey. So the illustration shows a grey hiliteon a grey background.

If you are considering buying this book I recommend that you experiment for your self and see what happens. It's what you'll end up doing anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick, user friendly introduction to Dreamweaver, 27 Jan 2000
"Training developed by experts often produces cognitive overload in learners because the experts have failed to put themselves in the shoes of a novice" Ruth Colvin Clark, Macromedia Web site

Ms Tarin Towers does not fall into this trap.

This book is pitched towards the novice and is an excellent introduction to Dreamweaver and web authoring. Numerous tips, supplementary information and screen shots.

I recommend the book to my students because it: - has a user friendly style - assumes little previous knowledge - has a student friendly price

It has little relevance to the expert - but then an expert should be able to get a grip of Dreamweaver using experience, intuition and the help menu.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book From Quickstart, 20 Nov 1999
By A Customer
...Being new to Dreamweaver 2 and having ploughed my way through 'The Bible', I found this book an absolutely superb and refreshingly clear introduction to the programm. It is concise, well organised with good examples and thankfully for a beginner, short on 'waffle'. From someone who has looked at most if not all of the books dealing with this program, take my advice and treat yourself - better value cannot be had! Well done Ms.Towers.
