Examples are brilliant!, 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This book has a brief introduction to Java programming, although short it is somewhat concise. Leaving out the majority of jargon which is not needed to write code to complete mathematical methods. It contains an abundance of examples and case studies to compile. These can become very useful when trying to devise code of your own for projects, with helpful hints and tips. But these can be tricky to run, after browsing their website I found I was not the only reader to encounter these problems. With the examples included in the book it emphasises on designing programs which are user friendly. Every example incudes a graphical user interface, to give your code a more modern and professional appearance instead of the dull and dreary dos environment. Thankfully this book does not include uneccesary information and code on the links between Java and the internet. Many books forget that Java is a useful tool for devising code for other requirements rather than just websites. From the website you can download a package which accompanies the book to enable the reader to run the graphical code included in the book. Again this is another Java book which lacks the information on databases, which is badly needed by all us engineers. Experiments which this code is needed for are usually accompanied with numerous streams of input. But this book is definelty a reccomended read for students, why be baffled by all that jargon used by computer programmers when this book speaks in an approach understandable by engineers.
