Product Description

Book Description

Help your child to read at home!

Product Description

Floppy has a big bone, but then he wants one even bigger. Read at Home is a new series designed for young, beginner readers. It features all the popular Oxford Reading Tree characters in 12 exciting stories specially written for parents to support their children's reading at home. These entertaining stories, with real life and fantasy adventures, are carefully graded across 4 levels, and contain built-in progression and vocabulary repetition throughout. Floppy and the Bone is Level 2c for children Starting to Read - those children who can recognize a few words by sight, can use pictures to help read simple sentences, and know some letter sounds. The story has a high degree of patterning and vocabulary repetition with one to two sentences per page. It retells the fable The Dog and the Bone as an everyday story, so there are opportunities for children to compare the two stories. Level 2 corresponds roughly to ORT stage 2-3.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, terrible title for a book, 16 Aug 2006
By Immachoor (Sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews
Floppy and the Bone is a story for everyone to relate to - Some days we are Floppy, other times we are the bone. The subject matter can often feel hard and only someone like the author can pull it off. The thrusting tale penetrates the issue of a floppy dog wanting an even bigger bone and you can't help but feel the passion when the bone is finally buried in a dark tunnel. A must for fans of similar books such as "Farmer Johnson's Noisy Cock" and "Randy Squirrel buries his Nuts"

5.0 out of 5 stars We're happy, 6 Aug 2009
By T. Peters - See all my reviews

Really happy with this book and will purchase more of the same 'family'. Fun enough to keep my child's interest, with good parents' notes, but short enough for her not to lose interest before the end. She's not reading yet, but can recognise a couple of key words from the book and we're happy with that.
