This book is widely regarded as a classic, and deservedly so. It set the standard by which other 'travelogues' are judged and it remains, despite being first published in 1937, a fabulous and entertaining account of a young man's trip through Persia and Afghanistan. This book is insightful, intelligent, funny and beautifully written.
