4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read, 4 May 2002
By A Customer
Wick was one of THE trombonists of his generation, and his book offers an interesting insight into the world of orchestral trombone playing. I'm not quite sure who the book is aimed at: it starts with the basics of playing the trombone (positions, for example), but soon progresses into discussions of technical issues which are too advanced to be helpful to the beginner. Wick discusses various pedagogical and technical issues, with examples drawn from the orchestral repertoire.

This book is probably most useful to the serious amateur, the teacher, or the professional: it contains a lot of interesting points, and can be useful as a reference. It is also quite a good book for dipping into. One warning: since the book was written in the seventies, there have been many advances or changes in the field; some of Wicks comments are rather dated these days.
