I found this to be a really good book for teaching youngsters or complete beginners to music. It is full of cute illustrations which offer handy tips throughout, such as a little caterpillar who reminds you to bend your thumb on the bow, or if you have enough rosin :)

I do think sometimes it assumes quite a bit, I think it should have gone through each of the notes as it taught the fingers rather than hoping one would just figure it out. It also doesn't mention very much about slurs, again just starts using them, and the appegrios and scales come AFTER you have done the third finger rather than before. I just found I had to add a few little bits to it and they book was great.

I really love the fact it includes rounds and some recognisable tunes, as anyone who learnt the violin would know, for ages it just seems to be technique. This book helps by adding some songs fairly early on (even if it does do an annoyingly inaccurate end to Frere Jacque).

I recommend this book.
